About the Role
We are currently recruiting experienced Complex Care Assistants to support an individual living in SN25 who requires 24-hour, 1:1 support.
This is a highly clinical role, requiring carers confident in managing complex neurological and respiratory conditions, working closely with clinical teams and family members.
Clinical Overview
The individual has complex medical needs, including:
- Von Hippel-Lindau Syndrome (VHL)
- Tracheostomy
- PEG feeding
- Dysphagia
- Hydrocephalus
- Chronic Kidney Disease (Stage 3)
- History of respiratory arrest, sepsis, and pneumonia
- Neurological complications including posterior fossa haemorrhage
- Polyneuropathy
- Sensory impairments (hearing loss and visual changes)
Key Responsibilities
You will provide high-level clinical and personal care, including:
- Tracheostomy care (including inner cannula changes)
- Supporting and setting up overnight ventilation
- Monitoring respiratory status and performing suctioning when required
- Administering nebulisers
- Delivering PEG feeding (twice daily) and administering medications via PEG
- Monitoring for signs of infection (e.g. UTI, chest infections, C-Diff)
- Managing urethral catheter care
- Providing pressure area care and prevention
- Supporting with full personal care (washing, dressing, grooming) – 2:1 support
- Carrying out safe hoisting and transfers (bed ↔ wheelchair, 2 carers required)
- Maintaining accurate records using Digital Social Care Records (DSCR)
- Supporting emotional wellbeing and maintaining dignity at all times
What We’re Looking ForEssential:
- Proven experience in complex care settings, supporting individuals with high clinical needs
- Hands-on experience with:
- Tracheostomy care (including inner cannula changes)
- PEG feeding and medication administration via PEG
- Ventilation support (including overnight setup)
- Suctioning and respiratory monitoring
- Urethral catheter care
- Confidence working in a 1:1 care package and as part of a 2:1 team for all moving and handling tasks
- Ability to safely carry out hoisting and transfers using appropriate equipment
- Strong ability to recognise, respond, and escalate clinical changes, including signs of infection or deterioration
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including accurate record-keeping using digital systems
- A compassionate, patient, and person-centred approach, with a strong understanding of dignity and respect in care
- Reliable, professional, and able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, including days, nights, and alternate weekends
- Hold the right to work in the UK
Working Hours
- 24-hour care package (1:1 support)
- Day and night shifts available
- Flexibility required, including weekends
