Reablement

Doing with, not doing for.

Reablement is a short-term, person-centred approach to support that helps people regain the skills and confidence they need to live as independently as possible.

It focuses on what each person wants and is able to achieve, supporting them to rebuild everyday routines and remain safely in their own home.

Helping people regain confidence, everyday skills and independence.

What is reablement?

Support focused on independence

Reablement is about helping people do more for themselves following illness, a change in their circumstances or a stay in hospital.

Rather than simply providing ongoing care, the aim is to work alongside each person, helping them rebuild confidence and practise the everyday skills they need to manage their daily life.

Reablement can help people return home safely, maintain their independence for longer and reduce the need for ongoing care and support.

Our role in Community Reablement

Supporting people across Gloucestershire

La Vie en Rose is working in partnership with Gloucestershire County Council as a local Community Reablement provider.

Our role is to bring together our local knowledge, experienced care team and person-centred approach to help people work towards the outcomes that matter to them.

We listen to each individual, work closely with families and other professionals, and regularly review progress so that the support can adapt as confidence and independence grow.

Our focus remains simple: helping people regain everyday skills, build confidence and live as independently as possible.

Support that changes as people progress

Community Reablement is designed to change as a person’s confidence and abilities grow. The aim is not to create long-term dependence on support, but to help people regain the skills and confidence to do more for themselves.

PERSONAL PROGRESS

Progress looks different for everyone. For one person it might mean preparing a meal independently. For another, getting dressed, managing medication or feeling confident enough to leave the house again.

SUPPORT THAT ADAPTS

The right support, for the right amount of time. As confidence and ability grow, support can reduce too — from physical assistance to prompting, shorter visits or fewer visits where appropriate.

LASTING INDEPENDENCE

Building confidence beyond our involvement. The goal is to create sustainable routines, skills and support around each person so they can remain as independent as possible when formal reablement support ends.

It is not about how much we can do for someone. It is about how much we can help someone do for themselves.
